Simple Three-Ingredient Cocktails

With three ingredients or less, you can get by with just a few classic pieces of barware.

A no-fuss home bartender or in the mood for something simple? When you have only a handful of ingredients on hand, try these four cocktails made with three ingredients or less (plus a few with only two!):

#1: Classic Daiquiri

Montanya Platino, Lime and Simple Syrup. That’s it. This classic cocktail is easy to make and makes it easy to please. Trust us—there’s something about serving a daiquiri that makes guests think you’re a pro behind the bar!

Pro Tip: Make your simple syrup ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to 30 days.

#2: Ti’ Punch

Ti’ Punch Rum Cocktail (get the recipe here).

Ti’ Punch Rum Cocktail (get the recipe here).

If you prefer longer-aged rums, consider trying our take on the Ti’ Punch. Still only three ingredients, it swaps the Platino for our dark, longer-aged Exclusiva or Valentia. (The original Ti’ Punch was made from Rhum Agricole, made with fresh sugar cane juice. We deeply respect this esteemed tradition, but because our rums are made from all the juice of the cane plant—not just molasses—we think our version has merit. Just as simple.)

Pro Tip: When you’re selecting rums, remember that a dark color doesn’t always mean an aged rum or better flavor. Color actually isn’t the best indicator of how a rum will taste—learn more here.

#3: Hoser

If you’re looking for an alternative to simple syrup or you’re not big on lime, the Hoser offers a nice alternative to the Daiquiri or Ti’ Punch. Named after the hilarious comedic tradition in Canada of Doug and Bob McKenzie, it features lemon instead of lime and uses Maple Syrup instead of simple syrup.

Pro Tip: This cocktail can be served hot or cold, making it a nice option at any time of year.

#4: Sonic

Sonic Rum Cocktail (find the recipe here).

Okay, technically this cocktail has four ingredients because we like to mix soda water and tonic to cut down on sweetness. If you’re a stickler for using only three ingredients, or you prefer one over the other, feel free to use soda water OR tonic. Either way, this is a great option when you like your cocktails to have some bubbles or be a little less alcohol forward.

Pro Tip: Picking the right tonic and soda water can make a big difference when it comes to flavor and the amount of sugar or sodium. We recommend some of our favorite options in our blog post 4 Ways to Enjoy Happy Hour Without Added Sugar.

Bonus Cocktail Recipe: Old Fashioned

Again, our version of the Old Fashioned has four ingredients, but if you prefer spirit-forward cocktails this is a great go-to.

Two-Ingredient Cocktail Options

While we pride ourselves on artisan cocktails, we’ve never been ones to look down on a good old fashioned Rum & Coke or Rum & Ginger. We’ve even been known to feature the Cuba Libre (our version of a Rum & Coke) on our Tasting Room menu for customers looking for something familiar. Here are a few of our favorite two-ingredient cocktail pairings:

Many of your favorite sodas or beverages may also double as rum mixers. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Cuba Libre

Pour two ounces of Montanya Oro into a tall high-ball glass, and top with Coke and ice.

Rum & Ginger

As above, pour two ounces of Montanya Oro into a high-ball glass, and this time top with ginger beer and ice. (We love Q Mixers and Fever Tree.)

Rum & Vanilla Cream Soda

Continue the trend, but swap Montanya Oro for Platino. Top with vanilla cream soda and ice.

It can also be fun (and tasty) to mix rum with artisan sodas, like Izze’s, San Pellegrino, and mixers from The Bitter Housewife (all of which we just love, and none of which are asking or paying us to say so. 😊)
