Rum Cocktails Perfect for Memorial Day Weekend

With Safer at Home orders still in effect, we know that Memorial Day celebrations may look a little different this year: a weekend away replaced by the backyard or patio, family reunions held via computer screen, or an afternoon with old photo albums in place of a parade.

Bittersweet, yes. But we’ve never believed celebrations need to be splashy to be special. The same can be said for planning a holiday menu. If you’re looking for something simple to elevate your weekend barbecue or cook out, here are a few Montanya cocktails to fit the bill:

No Fuss: The Sonic

If Memorial Day weekend is your way of kicking off summer, the Sonic Cocktail made with Platino is a quintessentially summery beverage. Low on sugar, bright with fresh citrus and simple to make, we often put this on our summer menu for no-fuss cocktail lovers.

Bright and Refreshing: Our Sidecar

It’s hard to go wrong with only four ingredients—Montanya Oro, fresh orange juice, fresh lime and a dash of simple syrup. This cocktail classic first appeared on menus during the Roaring Twenties, and it’s just as good 100 years later.

Nostalgia in a Glass: Boat Shoes

There might not be a trip to the lake this Memorial Day, but if you plan ahead, you can still evoke the feeling of being on the water. This summery mixed drink features our infusion, Top Sider, made by infusing Montanya Oro with orange peel, cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans. Delish!

Tropically Inspired: Rio de Janeiro

This adaptable drink blends pineapple, cream of coconut and orange juice, and can be made with Montanya Oro or Platino depending on your preference or whichever you have on hand. And while we’re aware there’s a certain irony to the name of this cocktail on Memorial Day, perhaps for just this weekend we can call it the Florida Folly or California Dreamin’. Any state with palm trees will do.

Simply Summer: Watermelon Mojito

Nothing says summer like watermelon, and no ingredient dresses up a mojito in quite the same way. If you have watermelon on the menu this weekend, consider trying a Watermelon Mojito.
