Madajo Drift is a new acoustic band based in the Gunnison Valley of Colorado. We play a variety of music including bluegrass, folk, blues, American roots, and crossover music that blurs the lines. Some refer to this style in general as Americana, though it’s difficult to put a single label on so many genres. We’ve been playing together along with other musicians here for a couple of years, but we recently joined forces as a trio and have been developing our sound since late 2015. We’re very excited to play our music locally and perform several of our new original tunes.
Our members include Mark Fonken, who plays 5-string violin and mandolin. Mark has been playing music in the Gunnison area for many years and is an accomplished musician. He has written several instrumentals with more in the works. Dave Pinkerton plays banjo (and also guitar on some tunes). Dave only picked up the banjo a few years ago and has really blazed his own trail with his instrument. He adds a very interesting mix to songs where you might not expect to hear a banjo. Dave has written songs for the group, and he also sings harmony. John Bocchino plays rhythm guitar and also plays a resonator guitar (Dobrato) and harmonica. John is the lead vocal and has written several songs the group performs.
We have really enjoyed collaborating on our original songs as well as interesting covers of well known tunes. We’re looking forward to further developing our sound and our mix of music. We hope you’ll come along for the ride!
