This classy new Tiki Bar just opened on South Broadway in Denver.  They have really pulled off an authentic, vintage 1950's tiki feel.  You WILL want to go check it out.

To select this year’s awards, Outside tapped their global network of correspondents to showcase a definitive roundup of the best new adventures, exotic retreats, beaches, local food, on-time airlines, gorgeous islands, and more. The awards reflect more than just a collection of unforgettable trips—it’s a road map to life-changing experiences. The issue also highlights a list of the best online travel tools as well a roundup of Outside’s all-time favorite destinations.

Montanya Distillers is one of Colorado’s original craft distilleries, founded in Silverton, Colorado in November 2008.  The company relocated its operations to Crested Butte in May 2011 and took over one of the town’s most beloved, historic buildings downtown, along with several bays in the local industrial park.  The 4,000 sq. ft. historic Powerhouse building on Elk Avenue houses the company’s Distillery and a Tasting Room for its award-winning Montanya Oro and Montanya Platino rums.  Bottling, warehousing and shipping takes place at their second Crested Butte location. 

Montanya has become well-known for its distinctive and genre-bending rum cocktails like The Maharaja Martini (Montanya Oro rum, North Indian spices, fresh ginger and lime) and The Basil Paradisi (Basil infused-Platino rum, fresh grapefruit and lime). The company currently distributes its rums in thirty US states including widely in Colorado, and will expand to all fifty states within the next 36 months under a new contract.   

In celebration of the Outside Active Travel Awards, Outside will launch the “What Trip Are You?” Facebook promotion, which will allow members of the Outside community to take an adventure travel quiz to determine what type of vacation best suits their adventure style from five categories. The categories include: Enlightened Explorer, Powder Hound, River Runner, World Traveler, and Adrenaline Junkie.  Participants will be able to choose between a series of travel favorites—Hotel or rustic lodge? Tropical escape or powdery heaven? Guide or no guide?—that will lead to their ultimate adventure travel escape.

Five grand prize winners (one per category) will get the chance to go on their dream adventure provided by Outside’s travel partners. Trip options include: Dory or raft trip down the Grand Canyon with OARS, Heli-ski in AK's Chugach range with Valdez Heli Ski Guides and Tsaina Lodge, Safari in Botswana with Wilderness Safaris and South African Airways, Multi-sport in Machu Picchu and Galapagos with REI Adventures, and an Andes to Amazon multisport trip with BikeHike Adventures. In addition, participants who take the quiz can come back for daily adventure travel gear prizes.

Girl Power at Montanya!

We are all so excited to see this final step of our nearly year-long process of moving taking place in front of our eyes.  

CB Ironworks did an amazing job (!!) fabricating two custom still bases and condenser tables for us. REG Engineering has been a great partner, along with Timberline Mechanical and Dragon Sheet Metal, to get everything professionally made and installed.   

Yes, it is true, we will have less space for big events.  But we think this will be truly value-added for Crested Butte locals and visitors alike.  Come check it out!  We will be open through the off-season and in April and May, we will be offering a local's tour and tasting package to encourage Crested Butte folks to come in and learn more.  Details to come.  

We will have two stills, 6 fermentation tanks and barrel storage in the Powerhouse.  Distilling on site will begin at the end of the month is long as all of our inspections go brilliantly.

Live music this weekend with Bruce Hayes and the New Ragged Mountain Ramblers from 4:30-7:30pm Friday night.  

This week's cocktail special is called The Powerhouse.  It seems like a lot of folks are trying to shake colds and coughs, so we created just the THING to help.  A tall cocktail with Montanya Platino, papaya, lime, lemon, acai, and coconut water!  It is packed with Vitamin C, antioxidants, minerals, calcium, fiber, and potassium.  Plus, rum is the ultimate, um, well, we can't really say medicine, but the pirates sure thought so!  

Last but not at all least, starting tonight we will begin giving away a Venture Helix snowboard made in Silverton, Colorado.  Enter to win in exchange for a $2 donation to double benefit Cash Lamar and family and the Trailhead Children's Discovery Museum.  Stop by Montanya to see the Venture Snowboard and enter to win.  The giveaway will happen at the Eldo on March 23rd during the Montanya-sponsored James and the Devil show, and more donations toward entries will be accepted at that show.  The winner need not be present to win, but it sure would be cool if they were there!
