Our Montanya PLATINO is a light, crisp rum aged to maturity in American Oak, coconut-husk charcoal filtered, and blended with San Juan mountain spring water. “Notes of honey, coffee, vanilla and oak are evident in the body and finish.” – Ed Hamilton, Minister of Rum “Richly flavored, with floral, almond, honey and caramel hints.” – Boulder Wine Merchant "Aromas of coconut crème brulee and anise cookie follow through on a soft entry to a dryish medium body with slightly acidic peppery notes and a roasted nut finish. Interesting." BTI 2009 “The nose on the rum has a soft sweet vanilla scent that gives it a nice introduction to your senses. This vanilla taste washes over the back of your tongue and creates a nice smooth finish.” – CookManFood.com "I can tell you that this rum is exceptional, it is smooth, you can drink it neat, over ice, in a coke, whatever. It's good in everything." -Colin Sayer, Examiner.comThe PLATINO is a white spirit distilled from high molasses content pure sugar cane, fermented with champagne yeast. Aging takes place in once-used Stranahan's Whiskey Barrels which have also aged Montanya Oro one time. The barrel color is then removed using a coconut-husk charcoal plate filtering process which leaves the spirit clear and perfect for mixing in lighter cocktails like the Mojito.
Our Oro and Platino rums are made from Colorado spring and snowmelt water and pure Hawaiian sugar cane. We use only four ingredients in our rums, no additives or colorings, extracts, or flavorings. The process and ingredients are as all-natural, unrefined or unprocessed as you will find. Our water comes from a spring-fed and snowmelt-charged aquifer 350 feet below Crested Butte, Colorado, where the water trickles through flavorful minerals but avoids contact with any heavy metals. Our sugar cane is union-harvested on a family farm in Hawaii, where the standards for farming are some of the highest in the world. We control and care obsessively about every stage of the distilling process in-house from sourcing traceable sugar cane to fermenting on site and distilling from scratch. Every step of the process is carried out by Montanya Distillers in our own facility. We age both rums in American Oak barrels from Stranahan's Whiskey in Denver, Colorado. Our rums have won the most prestigious medals of honor in the spirits world over the last 3 years, and we think the rums just keep on getting better!

Silver Medal - 2011 Silver Medal - 2010 Silver Medal - 2009
Our Montanya ORO is a dark, full bodied, sipping rum aged to maturity in American Oak and blended with San Juan mountain spring water. “Hints of toffee in the aroma lead to a body of espresso, toffee, vanilla and honey until roasted coffee beans dominate the slightly smoky finish.” – Ed Hamilton, Minister of Rum “The scent of honey is noticeable and the taste of molasses, honey, and a hint of vanilla is there.” – CookManFood.com "Fruity caramel and poached pear tart aromas follow through on a supple, buoyant entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with mocha, brown spices, and cola notes. Finishes a lively coffee, toffee and pepper fade. An engaging, spicy gold rum for mixing flavorful cocktails." Beverage Testing Institute - 2009 “The barrels give it a dark smoky flavor, and it has a chocolatey feel to it as well.” – Colin Sayer, Pirate Examiner at Examiner.com.
